3rd Place of Interest- Night Safari (Singapore)

Night Safari - This is the world's first night zoo and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Singapore. This zoo was built on 26 May 1994 by Dr Ong Swee Law with a 4 years plan and 3 years of construction. It occupies 40 hectares of secondary rainforest adjacent to the Singapore Zoo and Upper Seletar Reservoir. Unlike common zoo, the Night Safari is an entire open-air zoo set in a humid tropical forest that is only open at night. It is divided into eight geographical zones, which can be explored either via three walking trails or by tram.

The animals of the Night Safari are ranging from Indian rhinoceros to tarsiers, are made visible by lighting that resembles moonlight. Although it is brighter than full moonlight by a few orders of magnitude, it is dim enough not to disturb nocturnal and crepuscular animals' behavior. The lightning for Night safari has been created by London based lighting designer, Simon Corder. Animals are separated from visitors with natural barriers rather than caged, which is similar to the Singapore Zoo's open concept. Instead of vertical prison-like cages, cattle grids were laid all over the park to prevent hoofed animals from moving one habitat to another.

The zoo offers visitors to explore the wildlife in jungle where you can even hear the howls of a pack of striped hyenas and discover over 1,200 nocturnal animals of over 110 species through special lighting techniques. There are also cultural performance feature at the safari, “Creatures of the Night Show” which performed by the animals. Besides, tribal dances, blowpipe demonstrations and fire eating displays are featuring at the safari as well.

In terms of food and beverages, there are a number of outlets in the Night Safari which include Ulu Ulu Safari Restaurant, Bongo Burgers, and Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop. Visitors can also experience dining on the move with the Cocktail Safari Express and Gourmet Safari Express.
