Hello everyone, I am here to introduce about one of the famous foods in Hong Kong, Roast goose (燒鵝), ‘siu ngo’in Cantonese. If you are travelling to Hong Kong, you must try to eat roast goose which you may not find in Malaysia.
Roast goose, meat of geese is a dish that you can find in Chinese, Cantonese or European cuisine. In the South of China, roast goose is a kind of “siu mei”, which is roasted meat dishes you can find in Cantonese cuisine. It is made by roasting geese with flavour in a charcoal oven at high temperature. Mostly high quality of roasted geese has crispy skin with juicy and tender meat that makes a delicious dish. While serving the roasted goose, it will taste better to serve with sweet sour sauce that is generally recommended.
While in German, Germans traditionally roasted geese only on specific holidays such as St. Martin's Day. Roasted goose is also a favoured dish eaten on Christmas for which is similar to the turkey in the United Kingdom or the United States. The most common stuffings are apples, sweet chestnuts, prunes and onions. Typical seasonings include salt and pepper, mugwort, or marjoram is added to make the dish. Also red cabbage, Klobe, and gravy are used for dressing up the goose. Another version of roast goose is the Alsatian-style with Bratwurst-stuffing and sauerkraut as garnish.
The price of each whole roast goose is around HKD 300++, which can serve many pax and there are also few options for suitable pax with reasonable price. Eventually, if you are travelling to Hong Kong, it is recommended to try the roast goose as you are hardly or even may not find any of it in Malaysia, though it may cost a bit expensive it is still a worth to try new food.
